As a child, you just couldn’t wait for your birthday. The anticipation of “Your Day”, where everyone you knew helped you celebrate in some special way, was exciting. Whether it was a party to the closest ice or roller rink with all your friends. A cake with candles for you to blow out and make a wish, that you just knew was going to come true. Presents to open and cards from family and friends who lived out of town. Dinner out with the ones you love and the surprise cake for dessert with the serving staff singing you their rendition of “Happy Birthday.
Those were the good old days.
I had a birthday yesterday!
No party at the roller rinks, no cake with candles, no presents to open, not even a card. No dinner out and no singing.
I have decided that next year I am going to leave town and be alone.
Why you ask?
Because it would be less depressing to be by myself not expecting anyone to be around than to be in town and hope someone would like to share a special day with me.
