I don't understand why people are surprised!
I don't understand why the waste of time and money.
The charge was "Leaving the scene of a serious injury or fatal accident" ...
Well! Doh! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE DID!
His defense of "It never crossed my mind it was a person!" Bull shit!
Fact: His car struck a man while he was driving.
Fact: This man's body left a HUGE indented crack in the Bishop's windshield.
Fact: The Bishop didn't slow down or stop.
Fact: Witness' say he actually sped up and away from the scene.
Fact: The man died as a result of his injuries.
Fact: quote:
"O'Brien took the stand in his own defense for two days and testified he learned 24 hours after the accident that police wanted to question him about a fatal hit-and-run. But he never contacted authorities after that. He refused to answer a half dozen phone calls from friends, ignored police who rang his doorbell and looked into having his windshield repaired before he was arrested."
Is that the actions of a NON-Guilty man?
The jury's job was already done.
The man is suppose to be a man of God! But his past has proven that he is a man of coverup.
Two weeks before he was charged with hit-and-run, O'Brien was involved in another high-profile criminal case. He signed an agreement that granted him immunity from prosecution on obstruction of justice charges stemming from a decades-long coverup of sexual abuse allegations against priests in the Phoenix Diocese. In return for immunity, O'Brien acknowledged he endangered children by knowingly transferring priests accused of sexual molestation without warning parishioners or alerting authorities.
A man of denial. If I don't see it, it didn't happen.
The part that really bothers me MOST ...
the fact that even after he KNEW that his car had struck and killed a man he never showed any remorse ... I never heard him say he was sorry.

The sad thing is, a large majority of these "good" people are anything but. It's frightening what you learn while working directly with them.
