Goodbye Old Friend

Liko
li.ko
pronunciation: lee-co
function: noun
1. Hawaiian for Bud
2. companion, partner, friend
3. bestest little black dog there ever was

The family got Liko back on 1988. He was this little black ball of fur that was barely bigger than my hand.

For the next 16 years he was the best little black dog there ever was. He would play fetch with the ball for ever. As long as you threw it he would run after it and bring it back for you to throw again. He loved to swim. He was very loyal and protective of the kids. Even tho he was just a small dog, he had the bark of a dog much larger. People who came to the door were amazed that all that sound came out of his little body. Liko and my youngest son, E chased away a burgalar who had broken into the house. Liko biting at his heels as he ran out of the house and jumped the fence.

When Liko was about 8, he got a new brother. Beeker, the cat, came into his life and he became Beeker's mother. Liko was a male but that didn't stop Beeker. Beeker would try to nurse on Liko to no avail but Liko just let him cuddle up and keep trying even tho the claws must have been alittle painful.

A couple years later, along came another brother, Kermit. Liko again took him under his wing and made sure to let him know that even tho Kerm would outweigh him by about 50 lbs, Liko was still boss and

got the best spots to lay.

And the best sweaters.

The years took a toll. Liko developed arthritis and old age set in. He couldn't play ball, or swim or walk without pain.

Tuesday, August 10th, we put Liko to sleep.

We'll all miss you little buddy.

So sorry for your loss..you have had great pets over the years...they have been lucky to have you!

I am very sorry for your loss. We just took our older dog to the vet for her arthritis on Monday, i will be in your shoes sooner rather than later.

Oh hun, I'm so sorry. I know how hard that is.
My mom's little Chihuaua mix will be 18 in december and my mom is watching her closely for signs that its time.

I got here through Sweet GA Hunny B's page. I just wanted to add my condolences. :(
