Dr? Yeah Right!

I went to the Dr. today to see if he could look into why I am having so many headaches.

I left the office with an even bigger headache.

Let me explain.

The Dr. comes into the exam room (I might add that this is a "New Doctor" to me. My old Dr. went into consulting because he was tired of dealing with the insurance crap) and asks "what's up?" Actually kind of like that, a little on the cocky side.
The conversation went something like this

Me: "I have been having more than normal amount of migraines. Like three in the past 3 weeks. When normally I get only ".. He cut me off.

Dr: "Who told you they are migraines?"

I was thrown for a loop since I have been dealing with migraines for about 20 years or more.

ME: "I guess that they had never "officially" been diagnosed but that I had been having them for"again, he cuts me off.

Dr: "Where do you feel them?"

Me: "Across my forehead and along my neck. Usually over "
The BASTARD cut me off AGAIN!

Dr: as he is looking at the chart, "They probably are not migraines, probably just tension headaches"

I look at Hubby, who was sitting in the exam room with us, with a look of disbelief.

Dr: "Any vomiting or nausea?" Still looking at the chart.

Me: "Nausea and sensitivity to light and noise. I usually have to go to bed with the "

He cut me off AGAIN. Hubby and I exchange another look. I think my mouth was hanging open at this point.

Dr: "Well they could be migraines. What are you taking for them?"

Me: "I have been taking Advil Migraine or Excedrin Migraine, but that isn't " OH MY GOD! he cut me off AGAIN! The Bastard wasn't even letting me tell him my symptoms. I didn't get to tell him that taking the meds isn't working anymore. That I have a headache of some sort MOST days. Not migraines, but some kinds of headache or neck ache pain.

Well, it didn't get any better than that. The man was cocky and condescending and I was PISSED.

Anyway, I left the office with a bag of dope, a list of neurologist and a big old headache.

Asshole! Guess I am looking for a new doctor!

What a jerk! I guess he's never heard of a pleasant bedside manner. I hope you feel better, and I hope a new doctor is more compassionate!

What an asshole! You should put in a complaint about him.

I hope you feel better soon.

Ew, I would have told him off good. He needs to be knocked on his pedistal and given a lesson in bedside manner. Creep!!!

He must be one of those tht seem to think because he is a Doctor he is superior or because you were a female and he was a male he was. I saw a neurologist once that never once spoke to me the entire visit but directed everything to my husband and I was and am a damn RN talk about pissing me off he did.

Came here via Blog Explosion... I sympathize with you, totally. I've been having - oh dare I even say it? - migraines! Many of them and they've increased in number and intensity. My husband's been bugging me to go "see the doctor, already" and your post is the main reason I haven't. What an awful visit. Unfortunately, medicating myself and caring for four children makes it kind of difficult to accomplish the later. This may sound very sexist, but I find that female doctors tend to be a little more sympathetic and will let you at least finish a sentence. Good luck.

Freaking doctors. They are just about as bad as lawyers.

I am blessed to have a wonderful doctor BUT when she was on maternity leave her replacement was almost as charming as the doctor you dealt with.

After I was cut off for the second time I simply asked him if he was this rude to every patient or did I do something to warrent this special treatment? He did not reply. Nor did he cut me off again.

Good luck finding a new doctor and with your migraines.

btw: great blog!!
