Water Water Everywhere

except coming out of the faucet.

Got to work on Monday to find there is no water. None! Nada! Ziltch!

We had been having trouble with the hot water heater for the past few weeks. We would be in the middle of rinsing a perm or color and BAM no hot water. WAKE UP CUSTOMER!

So this wasn't a "NEW SURPRISE" thing. Only to me when I have my first client in the shampoo chair and there is "NOTHING". I am the only one who works on Monday and I usually go in at noon. Had a lunch date so it is now 2:30pm. NO WATER. Booked solid afternoon. See my problem.

After some investigating, it seems they are changing out the old water heater for a new one. They started at NOON. WHAT THE F*CK? Hey people I work today.

I called the boss and she says that her dad was suppose to to it on Sunday. She will be right down with some bottled water. You want me to rinse a perm with bottled water. Yeah like that is going to happen.

I'll cut to the chase. Water heater is done. No hot water. Tap tap tap coming from the area of the water heater. Tap tap tap alittle louder and harder. Bang bang bang "OH SHIT" ... water is off.

"Dad" comes in to salon. "I have to turn the water off to replace a valve that isn't working." Could it be he tapped tapped tapped alittle to long and hard.

Finished the day with NO HOT WATER. Didn't even shampoo my haircuts. Just squirted them down with a water bottle. Oh so professional. Perm and color were rinsed with cold water with just enough time before the water was turned off.

I should have known the day was going to get worse when at lunch I dropped a big blog of BBQ pork on my shirt.

Think there will be hot water when I go into work this morning? We'll see.

The week is over and Hubby, Josh and Niki are still working. They have only laid off 4 from their office, two being managers.

To add to the good news, Hubby was asked to change schedules. TO DAYS woo hoo! After 9 months of this crappy evening schedule he gets to go back to days. AND he will be working 4 - 10 hour days. (he loves that shift)

So all is well for now. The layoffs won't be complete until March 2005, so we get to fret for 5 more month.

Lay Off Me!

Pay attention! I didn't say "LAY ME OFF"!

Hubby works for a global networking company that is about to lay off somewhere around 600 employees. These employees will be coming mostly from the department that he works in.

OH JOY!

This isn't the first time we have had to take the "Let's wait and see what happens" stance and it probably won't be the last. But I can tell you that it is really getting old. But he has a job (for now) and the pay is great (for now) and he has a positive mental outlook on the whole thing. So I guess I will:

"Wait and see what happens" But I don't have to like it!

Keep your fingers crossed that Hubby and Josh and maybe even Niki all keep their jobs.

Don't Mess With My Station!

I am a hairstylist! I have my station and my stuff set up the way I want. I leave my station clean and tidy when I leave at the end of the day. This way I don't have to get there early to get things ready. It is already done.

So I really hate it when someone uses my station while I am gone. Actually, I don't hate for them to use my station...just don't leave it looking like you used it. Clean it up and leave it the way you found it.

Okay you get the picture! Well imagine my surprise when I got to work this morning and found THIS!!!

I have to go back to work today.

It has been 10 days that I have been off for surgery. Actually, 7 but I with regular days off it was stretched to 10.

But today I go back. I feel like I have forgotten how to do it. But I guess after 24 years of doing the same thing, there is not much chance I have lost it all in 10 days.

So back I go.... no more cleaning house... no more wasting time on the computer... no more running errands on command...no more napping when ever I want.......WAIT! I guess I still get to do all that. But now I have to incorporate the job thing too.

Life is too exciting.

I finally like my work again.

I have been doing the "hair thang" now for 22 years. For the past 6 or so I have not been real happy with where I have been working or WHO I have been working with. Mostly the Owners of the salon have been idiots. I have actually hated going to work. And I love what I do. I love my clients but I hated the atmosphere.

Last November, C and I again changed salons. I now work with the Owner, T ... the manicurist, L ... and C, a hairstylist that I have worked with for 12 years (we stick together). LOVE HER!

I am back into a happy family. We kid each other and help each other when we are busy. Today we are going to lunch. When you have to spend that much time with people it is great to really like them.

I really like these people. So lunch at Claim Jumpers here I come.

Work

This will be my first day back to work since vacation.

Wonder if I will remember how to do it.

I am now famous!

Okay... so "I" am not famous, but I did someone famous.

Okay... so I didn't "DO" someone famous in the way you are thinking of "doing" someone. But I did cut his hair.

I like my new place

of employment.

Granted I have only worked two days there and one of those days was by myself. But even alone in the shop I feel comfortable.

So far my ladies have not had much problem getting in and out of the parking lot. Which is the worst part of the place. But time will tell.

Anticlimactic

It was almost disappointing!

"The BOSS" was not there today (while I was there anyway, I guess he came in at 1) So I just finished my people, packed up my stuff and left the note and key on his station.

My coworker (who is going to give her notice next week and follow me) said he never said a word. DOH! Not surprised!

I am free!!!!!!

Got myself all moved into the new salon and will start work on Monday.

They were excited to see me. It is so nice to feel wanted!

Today's the Day!

Wish me luck!

I only have a very short day today. So when I am done with my customers I am handing "The Weirdo" an envelope with my shop key and a note that says:

Enclosed you will find my salon key. I am terminating my employment with you. I ask that you give any of my customers that may call, my cell phone number: 555-555-5555. and I signed it.

Short and sweet.

Then I am packing my stuff and getting out.

I don't expect him to say a word to me OR give my cell number to anyone who calls, because that is the way he is...but this way he can't say that he didn't have my cell number.

I'll let you know how it comes out.

Only One Word ... Weird!

That word keeps popping up when I discuss the owner of the shop I am in now... WEIRD! Yes in capital letters WEIRD!

I went into work on Monday and all my shampoo "stuff" at the back bar was GONE. (So was the other lady who also rents her station.) The back bar was cleared off EXCEPT for his shampoos and things.
So as expected I asked "Where did my "stuff" go?", as my customer was climbing into the shampoo chair.
He said" I put it on your shelf in the back room."
I thought this a bit strange (but he is) and asked " For any particular reason?"

Checked it out!

Went and looked at a new salon on Saturday. Love the place love the people but the parking sucks. A few years ago they expanded the road in front of this shop and it really cut into their parking. There are about 8 spaces directly in front of the shop which is great, but when it is time to leave you back out right onto the main road. This could be a problem for some people. I do a few older people who have a hard time going forward. To have them have to back out into traffic is kinda scary.
There is a huge empty lot right next door but it is fenced in so no parking there. If they would build something in that lot that would have a nice parking lot then the shop would be an excellent place. I haven't ruled it out completely yet but we will see.

I HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE SHOP I AM IN. I AM GOING CRAZY!!!!

I hate my job!

Actually I don't hate my job . . . I just hate WHERE I do my job.

The guy who owns the salon is a very weird character. I now know why he was working all alone in a six station salon. First he promised us several things and now he is saying that we were mistaken. WRONG! We both heard it! But he isn't budging.

So we look for something else. I hate to change AGAIN, and I know that my clients don't really like it either, but I am so unhappy with the situation that I hate going to work. I can not build my clientele because he snags all the walk-in traffic. There is no sense me sitting around when I am not busy if I will not be getting to do any of the walkins. He will make them wait for him even if C and I are not busy.

He is just a very strange bald guy. How can he know anything about hair when he doesn't have any. :)

Fall is here!

It may not feel like fall yet in the Valley of the Sun, but it is officially here.

How, you might ask, do I determine this when the autumn leaves have not begun to turn colors and fall off the trees...when the temperatures is still in the triple digits ...
